Product Safety and Testing

At Grace Teaware, we care deeply about the safety and quality of our ceramics. Every food-related item we offer is thoroughly tested through certified, independent laboratories before being imported. These tests ensure compliance with U.S. FDA safety guidelines and California Proposition 65 standards for lead and cadmium.

Recently, some social media videos have shown unregulated “lead detection” demonstrations using UV light and chemical reagents. These methods are not recognized by the FDA, EPA, or any regulatory agency. They are not scientifically validated and do not measure how much lead, if any, could migrate from ceramics into food or drink. Such tests can be misleading and are not an accurate assessment of product safety.

The testing liquids often used in these videos may contain chemicals like methylammonium bromide and isopropanol, which can irritate the skin and eyes and may cause breathing issues with improper use. These substances are not intended for casual handling or for evaluating food-contact materials. Even the disclaimers on these kits acknowledge their limitations. They are not approved for official safety determinations, and regulatory authorities only accept specific certified test methods for compliance.

We encourage our customers to rely on official safety standards and accredited lab testing when evaluating product safety. Grace Teaware products meet all required safety criteria and are safe for everyday use as intended.
